I tell my kids all the time that two things can be true at the same time. For instance, freelance writing is an amazing job filled with lots of flexibility and opportunity. But freelance writing can also be hard and frustrating.
There are also lots and lots of resources out there to help you get started, but that in and of itself can be overwhelming because where do you even start.
That’s where the Freelance Writing Toolkit comes in!
To help new and experience freelancers alike, I gathered a bunch of resources that you can use to start and grow your freelance writing business.
Resources included in the toolkit are:
Freelance Opportunity Newsletters: I linked four newsletters that I read religiously to get leads for new clients. The writers that send these out put in a lot of time to find freelance opportunities and then send them right to your inbox.
Education: There are a lot of courses on freelance writing, but these are two that I think are really great for beginning freelancers.
Newsletters for Inspiration: Freelance writing can be a solitary profession, so I always get excited when I see one of these pop up in my inbox. It’s amazing to read about what other freelancers are up to. I’ve have virtual coffee chats with a few of them, and they are amazing!
Placed: I had to plug Placed! There’s a link to the post with the submission form for easy reference.
Additional Resources: I gathered a list of the platforms I use on a regular basis to streamline my freelance writing business. They include Groove for online coworking, Qwoted for finding expert sources, Hunter.io for finding email addresses, and more.
I hope it’s super helpful whether your just getting started or if you just need a few extra tools in your toolbox!
There are officially editors in Placed! A big huge THANK YOU to everyone who has made this so exciting so far. If you left a comment on a LinkedIn or Simple Freelancer post, submitted a pitch, reached out with a suggestions, met with me over video, bought me a coffee, or even slowed down your scroll to read about it, I am eternally grateful and so excited to see what’s to come.
I reached out to all of the editors to see how things are going, and one of them said she contacted a writer about an article! It’s not official yet, but when I know, you’ll know!
If you’re a freelancer and want to add your pitch(es) to Placed database, you can find the form on this post.
If you’re an editor looking for pitches to commission, you can sign up and access the database through this post. [Freelancers: Feel free to share this far and wide!]
When you have a pitch commissioned or commission a pitch, let me know, so I can mark it as accepted and do a ridiculous happy dance.
I love coffee, and if you want to show support for this newsletter and Placed, you’re welcome to buy me one :) - it feels weird to put this here, but I have an account, so why not *shrug*. This is where the Freelance Writing Toolkit is, and I plan to post more resources!
