Welcome to The Pitch Place for Freelancers!
Freelance writers and journalists: Streamline your pitching process!
Hello! Welcome to The Pitch Place!
So, I had an idea while loading the dishwasher. I was thinking of an article pitch and wishing I could just send the idea out into the world somewhere and an editor would see it and reach out to me. I loved the idea, but knowing that the regular pitching process entails finding the right outlet - or at least one that I think is a good fit, tracking down editor information, finding the right email address, and sending a pitch that they may never see can be downright discouraging.
The image that kept coming into my head was a front porch. You know when you can sit on the porch with someone, coffee in hand, and just have the best conversations? That’s the vibe. A place to share ideas.
I’ve long been discouraged by the pitching process - I think a lot of freelancers are. But there wasn’t really a good alternative. Until now.
This is very much a project in progress, and I want to be very transparent about that. I had a grand vision of a fully built platform with a chat feature, ability to filter and search for keywords, and much more. But I don’t know how to do that. After a lot of talks with some smart and generously thoughtful people, I realized there was a way to start *now* and build as we go.
So here it is - the first iteration of The Pitch Place.
As a freelancer, all you have to do is fill out The Pitch Place Submission Form. From there, your pitch with show up on a database accessible to editors who can then reach out to you directly via email if your pitch is a fit for their publication!
After an editor reaches out, you can work out the details. When a pitch is accepted, let me know, and I’ll check the “Pitch Accepted” box, so other editors know not to reach out about it. (And I really want to know, so I can cheer for you and keep an eye out for your work!)
If you want more information, I shared some of my thoughts here!
I’m really excited to see how this works, and I hope you are too! Because this is a project in progress, don’t hesitate to reach out with any thoughts, comments, questions, or suggestions. I want it to be as valuable as possible for everyone!
It's commendable
I absolutely love this idea!!
